Step 1: CSAC I Requirement:
The student must register with ACADC and the Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP) , pay exam fee of $330, and Complete the CSAC I Entrance Inventory
To register the student must fill out and submit a completed registration form and enroll to take the CSAC I Exam. This exam is both our Entrance Inventory and our entry level certification to be used under authorized supervision. It is designed to let us know that you can counsel from a Christian Worldview. This exam is not a pass/fail. It is designed to show us your level of spiritual understanding and let us know that you have a Christian Worldview. If it appears to the inventory examiner that you need help in order to better understand certain principles, you will be contacted by an education counselor who will teach you the important areas one must be aware of to hold a Christian Worldview as a counselor. Step 2: Begin attending Required CDAAC Classes to meet 155 hour classroom requirement
Begin attending classes at one of our official training sites working towards fulfilling the 155 classroom hours of training required by the California Department of Alcohol & Drug Programs. The ACADC training curriculum has been studied and approved by the California Department of Alcohol & Drug Programs and will fulfill the 155 hour requirement. If you have already fulfilled this requirement, we will evaluate your transcripts and let you know what we can approve and what courses you will still need to take in order to meet all ACADC and ADP requirements as stated on their website at www.acadc.org and
www.adp.ca.gov.
Step 3: CSAC II Requirement
The student must first have taken the CSAC I Entrance Inventory. The student must next mail to ACADC Headquarters two Field Experience affidavits. One affidavit is signed by a direct supervisor who supervised 160 hours of the student’s counseling and related activities. The other affidavit is signed by the Human Resources director or counterpart in the organization that employed the student as a paid employee, or unpaid volunteer, who can verify 2080 hours of field experience. The registration form for the CSAC II and the
Certification Fee of $330 must be sent to ACADC (see address at the top of this page).
Step 4: Educational Counseling and Progress Accountability
Each student must schedule a counseling appointment with an ACADC Education Counselor or Administrator who will initiate a training progress file to track each student and make sure that all ADP and ACADC educational requirements are met which include the following:
1) Taking and passing the CSAC I Entrance Inventory
2) Verifying completion of 155 hours of classroom training including all ADP and ACADC required CDAAC courses.
3) Verifying 160 hours of AOD certified counselor supervision / or beginning the process of obtaining these required hours.
4) Verifying 2080 hours of paid or volunteer field experience / or beginning the process of obtaining these required field experience hours.
Each student will be responsible to go over their file with their education counselor two (2) times a year and report on their progress toward meeting all certification requirements.
Step 5: Take the CDAAC / RAS Exam
Upon becoming a CDAAC Candidate and completing the requirements stated in Step 2 and Step 3, the student must now take the state exam. In order to do so the student must enter the ACADC website at
www.acadc.org and click on the CDAAC / RAS EXAM link and sign up for the exam be following the instructions that follow. After you have signed up and paid the $49 fee you will become a RAS Registered Addiction Specialist intern and receive the RAS Manual of Counselor Competencies and a DVD tutorial that will tell you where the answers to the RAS Exam are located to help you prepare for the exam. As soon as you feel ready to take the exam you will need to call the testing center phone number that you receive with your manual and DVD. From a list of 130 test centers, you will choose the test center nearest you and schedule an appointment to take the exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, you will be officially awarded the Certified Drug, Alcohol, and Addiction Counselor Certification (CDAAC) and the Registered Addiction Specialist (RAS) Certification and will have met the ACADC Dual Certification Requirements that will allow you to be a professional counselor in both Christian and Secular settings.
THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE OPTIONAL OFFERINGS OF ACADC INSTITUTE DEGREE PROGRAMS
Step 6: Associate of Ministry Degree
Upon completion of 60 hours of training, all students are eligible to undertake an approved counseling, ministry, or research project to earn an ACADC Institute Associates Degree in Christian Drug, Alcohol and Addictions Counseling. A transcript showing completion of an Associates Degree from another institution will be accepted for evaluation and can be applied towards completion of this degree.
Step 7: Bachelor of Ministry in Christian Drug, Alcohol & Addictions Counseling.
Upon completion of 155 hours of classroom training, all students are required to complete an approved counseling, ministry, or research project to earn an ACADC Institute Bachelors Degree in Applied Drug, Alcohol and Addictions Counseling. A transcript showing completion of a Bachelors Degree from another institution will be evaluated and applied towards completion of this requirement.
Step 8: Master of Ministry in Christian Drug, Alcohol & Addictions Counseling
Upon completion of 60 hours of ACADC Institute post graduate courses the student is eligible to submit a Master Thesis contributing to the Drug, Alcohol, and Addictions counseling field. A transcript showing completion of a graduate degree from another institution will be evaluated and applied toward completion of this requirement.
Step 9: Doctor of Ministry in Christian Drug, Alcohol & Addictions Counseling
Requires a Bachelors Degree in any subject, 60 hours of post graduate study, an empirical research project using scientific research methodology validating the effectiveness of bible-based recovery programs, and evidencing spiritual fruit in furthering God-purposed ministry. This program requires the writing and publishing of a research dissertation that will help further Kingdom ministry, and a 70% or higher score on the CSAC Exam. A transcript showing completion of a graduate degree from another institution will be evaluated and applied toward completion of this requirement.
